On July 28, the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission announced that the city has launched a comprehensive mosquito control campaign. Chikungunya fever is a viral illness caused by the chikungunya virus, primarily transmitted through the bites of Aedes mosquitoes. Its main symptoms include fever, rash, and joint and muscle pain. While most patients recover within a week, 30%-40% may experience persistent joint pain lasting months or even years, significantly affecting their long-term quality of life.
From July 20 to July 26, a total of 2,940 local Chikungunya fever cases were reported across Guangdong, with no severe or fatal cases noted, according to an announcement released by the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Prevention and Control on July 27.
