The Guangzhou Nansha Cold Chain Project, which includes the largest port-based cold chain warehouse cluster in China and a comprehensive cold chain logistics distribution base, finished its roof-sealing on June 28.

With a planned investment of 3.5 billion yuan ($490 million), the project aims to have a 400,000-ton storage volume. Upon completion, it will serve the city clusters in South China, the Pearl River Delta region, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, creating a full cold chain logistics pattern with Nansha International Logistics Center being the "cold chain home port."

The cold chain project is scheduled to become operational in 2021. Its first-phase project, which has an investment of 1.87 billion yuan, includes three eight-floor cold stores, one refrigerator warehouse, and one supporting building for exhibition. The second-phase project covers three cold stores that are able to offer customers one-stop services, such as freezing and refrigeration, bonded inspection, processing and distribution, commodity display transactions, as well as supply chain finance.

The business operation of the Nansha cold chain project mainly focuses on high-quality meat, aquatic products, fruits and vegetables, as well as other bulk goods. With its geographic advantages, the cargo from the project can reach cities in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) within one hour and then be distributed throughout the country.

The project is adjacent to Nansha Port, one of the busiest hub ports in the world. After the Nansha Port On-dock Railway, which goes through the cities of Guangzhou, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, and Foshan, as well as connects with the major railway lines in China, opens to traffic in 2021, the rail-water integrative shipping system in Nansha Port area will further improve.
