A shipping route running towards Thailand and Cambodia from South China passing through Guangzhou's Nansha Port was launched on May 17.

The route, operated independently by Regional Container Lines (RCL), will dock in Nansha Port every Monday after it sets sail from Songkhla, Thailand.

The route will also include stops in Hong Kong, Keelung and Taichung in Taiwan, as well as Dongguan in Guangdong province, before returning to Hong Kong and then heading towards Sihanoukville, Cambodia and Songkhla.

Songkhla is the biggest international trade port in south Thailand and is also a major base of agriculture and forestry products.

It only takes four days to travel from Songkhla to Nansha directly, offering fast and effective service for the import of wood and fruit.

Yu Wen'er, deputy general manager of a local cargo company, said that the operation of the line is good news for those customers importing rubber wood timber as logistics costs will be significantly lowered.

The new shipping line, which is the only direct route linking the South China area and Songkhla, is expected to establish an economical and convenient logistics channel for customers in the Pearl River Delta area, as well as those in the south Thailand area.
