Guangzhou downtown duty-free shop set to mark first anniversary

South | Updated: 2026-08-26

The first downtown duty-free store in Guangzhou is set to mark its first anniversary on August 26. It opened at Guangzhou Friendship IFC Store, No. 5 Zhujiang West Road, Tianhe District, exactly one year ago.

The store is among the first new duty-free outlets established in urban areas across China. It combines duty-free and duty-paid retail, as well as imported and domestic products, allowing customers to shop downtown and pick up their purchases at the airport before departure.

Over the past year, the store has offered international products alongside Chinese-brand products and Lingnan cultural-heritage-themed products.

The duty-free section is open to travelers departing from Guangzhou within 60 days. The duty-paid section is open to the general public. It supports China's upgraded overseas-visitor tax-refund scheme, allowing overseas visitors to claim instant in-store tax refund through a paperless process.

To mark its first anniversary, the store is offering a range of special promotions, including shopping vouchers, gifts for qualifying purchases and pop-up events featuring Chinese-themed products.

Spend ¥826 on point-earning items in one day to enter the lucky draw.
