FedEx opens direct Guangzhou-Sydney cargo route to speed up Australia deliveries

South | Updated: 2026-08-07

FedEx announced on August 4 the launch of a new non-stop freighter service connecting its Asia-Pacific hub in Guangzhou, southern China, with Sydney, Australia. The new route will further strengthen air cargo connectivity between Asia and Australia.

The new route operates 5 times a week using Boeing 777 freighters. It is expected to reduce transit times for certain shipments from major Asian markets by up to 1 day, with the fastest deliveries reaching Australia within 2 business days.

The upgraded connection will provide businesses with faster and more reliable logistics support, particularly for time-sensitive and high-value goods. Companies in sectors such as new energy, smart manufacturing and cross-border e-commerce will benefit from shorter supply schedules and enhanced inventory management.

FedEx said the new service strengthens its intra-Asia network and enhances connectivity between China and Australia. By leveraging its Guangzhou hub, which facilitates cargo flows across Asia and other international markets, the company aims to offer customers greater supply chain flexibility and predictability.

The launch comes as trade ties between China and Australia continue to strengthen. China remains Australia's largest trading partner, with bilateral cooperation covering sectors such as agricultural products, electric vehicles, electronics and healthcare products.
