Guangzhou's new waterfront retail destination opens

South | Updated: 2025-12-26

The first section of Guangzhou's highly anticipated Taikoo Li Julong Wan Guangzhou opened to the public on December 23, introducing a waterfront retail experience to the city's Bai'etan area. As the first Taikoo Li-style development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the project combines open-air shopping streets with historic industrial buildings near the Pearl River.

The initial phase includes about 30 brands, with seven making their debut in Guangzhou. Among them are SMFK, Yuyuan Tea House, and ANTAZERO, blending international labels with local designs. The layout incorporates cultural elements like banyan trees, renovated warehouses, and waterways, reflecting Lingnan aesthetic traditions.

Covering approximately 5,000 square meters in its first phase, the complex ultimately plans to expand to 180,000 square meters with more than 400 shops. A high-end luxury section is scheduled to open in late 2027.

Located in Liwan District, the site is part of Guangzhou's broader effort to revitalize its western riverfront. The area includes upcoming projects such as China Resources MixC and a planned cross-river cable car, aiming to strengthen Bai'etan as a commercial and cultural hub.

Poly Real Estate and Swire Properties co-developed the project, which is also designed to meet stringent sustainability standards, including dual SITES Platinum certification for environmental design.

The opening enhances Guangzhou's profile as an international consumption hub. From January to November 2025, Liwan District's retail sales grew 15.4% year-on-year, the highest in the city, while total social consumer retail sales rose 9%.
