Guangzhou has established friendship or sister city relationships with 38 cities in 35 countries on six continents as of April 19, Guangzhou Daily reported on July 29, one day ahead of the 12th International Day of Friendship.

Guangzhou's international friendship and sister city cities have become an important channel for Guangzhou to carry out foreign exchanges as well as one of the important symbols of Guangzhou's progress in opening-up.
