Guangzhou Foreign Affairs Office | Updated:2025-04-28

On April 25, the 2025 Sino-Global Youth Exchange Day was held at the Haoyi Tianhe Comprehensive Service Center in the Liede International Neighborhood (Hong Kong and Macao Community).

The event focused on cultural exchanges and diverse thinking between Chinese and foreign youth, showcasing Tianhe's open, inclusive international image and innovation-driven vitality, while contributing to the "One Million Talents in Guangdong" initiative. Organized by the Tianhe District Government Office and Tianhe District Youth Federation, and co-organized by the China-Britain Business Council, Guangzhou International Exchange and Cooperation Center, Liede Subdistrict Office, and Hong Kong and Macao Residents Service Center of Tianhe District, the event brought together diverse talents.

As one of the first batch of pilot international neighborhoods in Guangzhou, the Liede  International Neighborhood boasts profound historical and cultural heritage and a lively international cultural atmosphere. The Haoyi Tianhe Comprehensive Service Center serves as a key showcase for the neighborhood, integrating international exchanges, cultural exhibitions, and tourist services to highlight Liede and Tianhe's openness to global visitors.

Diverse Thinking Shapes Opportunities in Tianhe

Nearly 100 outstanding youth representatives from over ten countries and regions—including China, the UK, the US, Spain, and Hong Kong—participated in the event, spanning fields such as economy, technology, education, and tourism. Bringing diverse cultural backgrounds and unique perspectives, they engaged in a cross-border intellectual feast. Discussions centered on Tianhe's development opportunities, cultural exchanges, and innovation-driven entrepreneurship. Participants shared insights and experiences, exploring ways to enhance personal and societal value in Tianhe's dynamic environment. The exchanges deepened mutual understanding, sparked innovation, and injected new energy into Tianhe's future growth.

As a core engine of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Tianhe boasts a world-class industrial ecosystem and business environment while fostering an inclusive, diverse, and innovative international atmosphere. In recent years, its open policies and forward-thinking initiatives have attracted global talent. As a co-organizer, the China-Britain Business Council leveraged its expertise in UK-China trade and education collaboration to build bridges, enabling more British professionals to engage with Tianhe and advancing bilateral cooperation in education, technology, and trade. This further facilitated the two-way flow of international talents and resources.

Innovative event encourages deeper engagement

Breaking away from traditional forum models, the event adopted a multi-format approach—Themed Sharing, Flash Talks, and Free Networking—to enhance cross-cultural engagement.

The themed sharing session featured six young professionals from diverse backgrounds sharing their Tianhe-based entrepreneurial journeys.

Lavi (Hong Kong) recounted his dream of building cultural bridges between Hong Kong and Spain while establishing himself in Tianhe.

David Butler (UK) shared his startup story and passion for dragon boat culture as captain of the Guangzhou International Dragon Boat Team.

Deng Yicun (Columbia University graduate) discussed leveraging AI in education through his startup, Gizzai Technology.

Zheng Yuqi (UK-educated) highlighted how her UK studies became a career asset, now driving UK-Tianhe trade cooperation as Head of the China-Britain Business Council's Guangzhou Office.

Samuel Rodriguez (Managing Director of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in South China) bridged Sino-Spanish collaboration in business, culture, and tech while capturing China's essence through photography.

Elliott (education expert at ISA Tianhe International School) shared insights on international education. These narratives revealed entrepreneurial opportunities and challenges across cultures.

During the 1-minute Flash Talks session, young professionals from various industries delivered concise and impactful speeches, sharing Tianhe-based success stories, innovative ideas, as well as visions and expectations for the district's future.

Amid elegant violin performances, young talents exchanged stories about education, careers, and cross-cultural understanding in a lively, interactive atmosphere, embodying Tianhe's cosmopolitan charm.

Talent Synergy Fuels Tianhe's Growth

The event has not only built a solid platform for strengthening Sino-global youth exchanges and cooperation, and enhancing mutual understanding and friendship, but has also enabled more young talents to learn about and choose Tianhe, engage in deep interactions and mutual learning, and jointly participate in the construction and development of the Greater Bay Area. Through face-to-face interactions, innovative thinking has been further stimulated and a spirit of collaboration cultivated. International participants have deepened their understanding of Tianhe's economy, technology, culture, and education, while witnessing the district's commitment to nurturing international talent.

To accelerate talent development in the Greater Bay Area and support Tianhe's high-quality growth, Tianhe District now invites global professionals in natural sciences, engineering, modern agriculture, and finance to join its high-quality enterprises, universities, research institutes, and hospitals.

Moving forward, Tianhe will continue to enhance international talent services through dialogue and high-engagement platforms. Through open development, Tianhe aims to empower young talents to achieve their fullest potential, establish a new hub for talent-driven innovation and entrepreneurship, and inject fresh momentum into the district's high-quality development.
