Guangzhou is set to welcome a new iconic tower. On May 16, the first steel column of the Dazhengang Meteorological Tower in Panyu District was successfully hoisted, marking the start of the main construction of the structure.
The tower, nearly 200 meters in height, will serve multiple functions, including meteorological observation, urban sightseeing, exhibitions, and science education.
Located in Dazhengang Mountain, Nancun Town, Panyu District, the tower is 335.25 meters above sea level (with a structural height of 190 meters) and faces the Canton Tower across the city. The tower adopts a "steel diagrid tubular" structure with "aluminum curtain walls". Its facade is designed with streamlined vertical ribs, and the meteorological observation dome atop the tower resembles a glowing "pearl".
In terms of meteorological observation, the Dazhengang Meteorological Tower is equipped with advanced instruments capable of accurately monitoring weather disasters such as typhoons, rainstorms, and strong convection in South China. It will provide high-precision meteorological forecasting data for Guangzhou and other regions in the Pearl River Delta. Additionally, the tower will support civil aviation, water conservancy, and other critical sectors.
Moreover, there are other upcoming landmarks in Guangzhou.
