Guangzhou Metro has announced the eastern section (Ersha Island-Higher Education Mega Center S.) and western section (Xunfenggang-Guangzhou Gymnasium) of Line 12 will commence operation by the year-end, finally bringing metro access to this artistic islet.

The two sections slated for operation in 2025 span 27.9 kilometers with 18 stations. Construction progress has reached 95%, with 12 stations and key facilities delivered for operational preparation.

However, the central segment (Jingtai-Donghu) of Line 12, including Chigang Station, won't be able to open simultaneously due to challenges caused by the complex construction environment along the route.

Stretching diagonally from northwest to southeast across the city, Line 12 runs 37.6 km connecting five districts (Baiyun, Yuexiu, Haizhu, Huangpu, Panyu) and serves key areas including Jinshazhou, Guangzhou Baiyun Railway Station, Baiyun New Town, Ersha Island, and the Higher Education Mega Center.

The station names along the Xunfenggang-Luhu section remain provisional pending final government approval.

Ersha Island Station—nestled in Guangzhou Development Park alongside cultural landmarks like the Xinghai Concert Hall and Guangdong Art Museum—features a music-inspired design. Its elegant white piping resembles the five-line staff, while artistic walls and acoustic panels create a symphony of visual and auditory elements, transforming the station into an underground concert hall.
