South | Updated: 2026-09-10

Chinese electric-vehicle maker XPeng's humanoid robot production line officially began operations in Guangzhou on September 8. The first advanced general-purpose humanoid robot completed automated final assembly and autonomously walked off the production line, marking a key step in the company's transition from R&D prototyping to manufacturing.

XPeng, which designed and developed the facility, describes it as the world's first automated production line for advanced general-purpose humanoid robots. It integrates quality-control systems and precision manufacturing techniques from the automotive industry into humanoid robot production.

More than 80 percent of the core manufacturing processes are automated, creating a highly precise and flexible manufacturing system designed to support mass production and rapid capacity expansion.

At the launch event, He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of XPeng, said the company aims to develop humanoid robots with broad capabilities that can operate in a wider range of real-world settings, including tasks that are dangerous, repetitive or unwanted for humans.

According to XPeng, its humanoid robots are expected to enter mass production by the end of this year and begin commercial deliveries in 2027.
