Summer night culture tour: Guangdong museums extend hours for 2026

This summer, major museums and cultural venues across Guangdong are extending opening hours, raising visitor capacity, and offering special nighttime sessions to ease daytime crowds and create immersive after-dark cultural experiences. From Guangzhou to Shenzhen and Foshan, here are the places to enjoy museums after dark this summer.

Guangzhou

Guangdong Museum (广东省博物馆)

The Guangdong Museum kicked off its summer "Cantonese Museum Nights" series with the opening of the exhibit "Prosperous Symphony: Masterpieces from Glasgow Museums" on July 3. From July 1 to August 30, the museum will stay open until 9:00 PM, with last entry at 8:00 PM, except on Mondays. This gives visitors a full 12 hours to explore.

This year's "Cantonese Museum Nights" features four themed events that combine exhibitions with drama, music, science, and intangible cultural heritage.

Guangdong Museum of Art (Bai'etan Venue) and Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum

The Guangdong Museum of Art (Bai'etan Venue) and the Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum will host summer nighttime openings from July 10 to August 30, open from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with the last entry at 8:30 PM, except Mondays.

Note: The Guangdong Museum of Art's Ersha Island venue does not have extended evening hours.

During the summer, the art museum will offer multiple guided tours, including special "Curator-led night tours." Beyond viewing exhibitions, visitors can explore the museum's cultural and creative spaces, where art becomes touchable, collectible, and part of everyday life.

Admission: Individual visitors can enter free of charge without a reservation. They should bring a valid ID and pass through security checks upon entry. Group visits of ten or more people require booking by phone at 020-82156598. Paid special exhibitions require separate tickets, while all other exhibitions are free.

Guangzhou Museum of Art (广州艺术博物院)

The Guangzhou Museum of Art has also extended its summer opening hours, with the Dunhuang grotto art exhibition open until 8:30 PM.

Guangzhou Maritime Museum (广州海事博物馆)

The Guangzhou Maritime Museum, the only maritime-themed museum in Guangdong, will stay open until 8:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the summer.

Memorial Museum of Generalissimo Sun Yat-sen's Mansion (孙中山大元帅府纪念馆)

From July 11 to August 30, the Memorial Museum of Generalissimo Sun Yat-sen's Mansion will operate from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the last entry at 5:30 PM, and will be closed on Mondays. Admission is reservation-free. Group tours require a phone booking at least one working day in advance at 020-89012366. Consultation hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Guangdong Museum of Revolutionary History (广东革命历史博物馆)

To meet summer visitor demand, the Guangdong Museum of Revolutionary History and its branch venues will extend opening hours from July 11 to August 31, operating from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the last entry at 5:30 PM.

Shenzhen

Shenzhen Museum (深圳博物馆)

From July 1 to August 31, the Shenzhen Museum will extend hours across multiple venues:

Jintian Road Branch (History and Folk Culture) and Tongxin Road Branch (Ancient Art): Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with the last entry at 8:30 PM

Shenzhen Reform and Opening-up Exhibition Hall: Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with the last entry at 8:30 PM

Address: No. 184 Fuzhong Road, Futian District, Shenzhen

Admission is reservation-free.

Nanshan Museum (南山博物馆)

The Nanshan Museum in Shenzhen has added regular nighttime openings from July 4 to August 31. In addition to its existing Saturday evening service, the museum will extend its hours on Fridays and Sundays as well:

Tuesday to Thursday: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Friday to Sunday: 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with the last entry at 8:30 PM

Admission is reservation-free.

Foshan

Nanhai Museum (南海区博物馆)

From July 11 to August 31, the Nanhai Museum will extend its closing time by 30 minutes, operating Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with the last entry at 4:30 PM, and closing on Mondays.
