The Guangzhou Acrobatic Troupe has once again brought its original production Swanto Russia, captivating audiences in St. Petersburg with a powerful blend of acrobatics and ballet.
The production was staged at the Mariinsky Theatre from April 29 to May 1, marking its return to the prestigious venue following a previous run in 2024.
Widely regarded as one of Russia's cultural landmarks, the Mariinsky Theatre provides a fitting stage for the visually striking performance, which reimagines classical ballet through the language of Chinese acrobatics.
Audience members praised the show's innovation, emotional intensity and the performers' exceptional technical skill.
"It was a completely new vision—very innovative and deeply moving," one viewer said, noting the seamless coordination of the ensemble and the dramatic tension throughout the performance.
The production builds on the legacy of the 2006 acrobatic ballet Swan Lake, a Shanghai-Guangzhou co-production that drew widespread acclaim in Moscow. Nearly two decades later, Swan continues to serve as a cultural bridge, offering Russian audiences a fresh perspective on Chinese performing arts.
Performers also expressed excitement about returning to St. Petersburg, describing the experience as both an honor and an emotional milestone.
