Global journalists tour Guangzhou, unpacking the city's success in trade and technology

On April 15, 86 journalists from 52 media outlets representing countries including China, the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Japan gathered in Guangzhou for an in-depth press tour.

The day began with a press conference themed "Expanding High-Level Opening Up," where Zhang Hu, Executive Vice-Governor of Guangdong Province, outlined the province's remarkable achievements. "We actively promote two-way opening up between the Greater Bay Area and the international market," he said.

Guangdong's foreign trade has ranked first in China for 40 consecutive years. In the first two months of this year alone, trade surged by 22.1% year-on-year, setting a record high for the period. The province not only "sells to the world" but also "buys from the world," with its lithium batteries, electric vehicles, photovoltaics, home appliances, and furniture reaching global markets.

The delegation also visited the 139th Canton Fair, witnessing the scale of China's export powerhouse—1.55 million square meters of exhibition space, over 75,000 booths, and more than 32,000 exhibitors, including nine new specialized zones for smart wearables, display technology, and consumer drones.

At IROOTECH, a leading industrial internet platform, journalists learned how "industrial internet + AI" is driving manufacturing digital transformation. The company's self-developed operating system connects over 2.5 million high-value devices and has built 10 vertical large models for industrial scenarios.

On the technology front, Nelson Pancini De Sa from Brazil's UOL Group shared his personal experience: "This is my second time in Guangzhou. A few months ago, I took a flight in EHang's eVTOL flying car. It was very important and interesting because China is building a low-altitude economy, and that's so significant for Brazil. Now EHang is trying to sell eVTOLs in Brazil and may even set up a factory there someday."

Liao Kewen from Guangzhou Chenzhi Intelligent Machinery added that during the big earthquake in Turkiye a few years ago, Chinese rescue teams deployed lighting drones there—a powerful live demonstration. "Turkiye has since seized the opportunity to develop its own drone industry," he noted. For his company, overseas business currently accounts for only 30%, but "a reasonable proportion should be 60 —the overseas market has much more potential, with over 8 billion people in the world."
