Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport has launched its first non-stop service to Kuching, the capital of Malaysia's largest state, Sarawak, and a key center in East Malaysia, known for its rainforest landscapes, diverse cultures, and distinctive local cuisine, with the first flight operated by Malindo Air on March 17.

The new route connects Guangzhou and Kuching in around three hours, removing the need for transfers and improving access between southern China and East Malaysia. The launch comes as China and Malaysia implement mutual visa-free travel arrangements. Chinese passport holders can enter Malaysia for tourism, family visits, or short business trips for up to 30 days without a visa, a move expected to boost travel demand.

Kuching, often referred to as the “Cat City” for its feline-themed landmarks, is known for its proximity to rainforest reserves, multicultural heritage and regional cuisine. The new connection is expected to support tourism flows in both directions.
