A major gathering of aviation executives and airport leaders opened in Guangzhou on September 10, marking the first time Airports Council International (ACI) World's Airport Experience Summit has been held in China.

The three-day event, hosted by Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, brings together delegates from around the globe to explore how artificial intelligence, biometrics, and passenger-focused design can redefine the travel experience.

ACI forecasts suggest annual passenger traffic at Chinese airports will more than double from 1.4 billion in 2024 to over 3 billion by 2042, underscoring the country’s pivotal role in shaping the sector’s future. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, among the world’s busiest, handled more than 512,000 flights and 2.37 million tonnes of cargo in 2024.

The summit will also feature the presentation of ACI's Airport Service Quality awards, recognizing airports that set benchmarks in passenger experience.

By bringing the event to Guangzhou, organizers said, ACI aims not only to highlight China's aviation achievements but also to strengthen collaboration and innovation across the global airport community.
