Drones deployed in Guangzhou's Conghua for epidemic prevention and agricultural development

In Guangzhou Conghua's Aotou Town, agricultural drones have become a common sight, soaring in formation across the sky as they carry out spraying operations. Under the remote control of skilled pilots, these aircraft adjust their altitude and angle with precision, evenly spreading pesticides over rice fields or targeting mosquito breeding zones to prevent dengue and chikungunya fevers.

Since August 18, Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance has supported local efforts by providing eight agricultural drones and a professional pilot team. The initiative aims to enhance public health protection and modernize agricultural production through technology.

According to Wang Yun, Director of Ping An’s Agricultural Insurance Department in Guangzhou, drone technology can cover the entire grain production chain—from precise sowing and pest control to transport—while also enabling a rapid response to public health emergencies.

Compared to traditional manual methods, a single drone can cover 300 mu (approximately 20 hectares) per day—30 times more efficient than human labor—while reducing pesticide use by over 15%. The drones also lower operational costs and minimize exposure to hazardous conditions for workers.

The district’s extensive farmland and recent heavy rains make drone technology particularly valuable. Coordinated with the local health bureau and agriculture bureau, Ping An puts the drones on standby to be dispatched to towns and villages as needed.
