On August 19, the five-day 2025 Southern China Book Fair concluded successfully at the Canton Fair Complex in Guangzhou.
This year's book fair achieved historic highs in scale, attendance, and social impact. The main venue covered about 40,000 square meters with four themed halls. A total of 467 sub-venues were established across Guangdong's 21 cities, as well as in Macao SAR and Kashi in Xinjiang, bringing the total exhibition area to over 1 million square meters.
More than 1,500 publishers from home and abroad presented nearly 500,000 publications and creative cultural products. The main venue and sub-venues hosted 2,335 cultural events, attracting over 55 million participants both online and offline. During the event, attendance at the main venue and sub-venues in Guangdong reached 2.75 million. At the main venue, books were sold at discounts starting from 40%, and reader-benefit activities reached over 2 million people.
The fair attracted publishing and cultural organizations from 23 countries and regions. Vietnam, as the Guest Country of Honor, presented a special exhibition themed "Comrade Ho Chi Minh in Guangzhou" and a series of events celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam.
Top international publishers, including Penguin Random House, Macmillan Publishers, and Bloomsbury, made a collective debut, showcasing 20,000 original foreign-language titles, including over 2,000 new releases for 2025 (30% making their first appearance in the Chinese mainland).
The fair achieved significant results in copyright trade, with 102 China-foreign copyright agreements (including intentions) signed, and over 30 key works such as "A Brief History of Guangdong" set to reach global audiences.
