South | Updated:2025-08-13

On August 9, "Across the Himalayas: The Symphony of Nature and Culture in Nepal" opened at the Multicultural Library on the 8th floor, north wing of Guangzhou Library.

Marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of China-Nepal diplomatic relations, the exhibition is divided into three sections: "Turning Prayer Wheels," "Everyday Aromas," and "Echoes from Snowy Mountains," featuring over 70 exhibits, including Thangka and handicrafts from Nepal. Co-hosted by Guangzhou Library and the Consulate General of Nepal in Guangzhou, the exhibition offers a vivid glimpse into Nepalese culture.

Highlights include the intricately detailed "Thousand-handed Guanyin" by renowned Nepalese national painter Manbahadur, and the "Peacock Window Woodcarving," made by Newar craftsmen, which is an iconic symbol of Nepal's cultural heritage and craftsmanship.

During the visit, guests can experience the resonant hum of singing bowls via headphones, browse Nepalese "Wisdom Proverbs," and explore over 100 Chinese and English books on literature, history, tourism, and other topics for deeper insight.

At the opening ceremony, Bharat Khanal, Consul General of Nepal in Guangzhou, joined the Guangzhou Library book-sharing salon as a storyteller, sharing Nepal's must-visit natural and cultural spots along with its rich traditions in folk arts.

The director of Guangzhou Library mentioned that during the exhibition, interactive activities such as Thangka painting, singing bowl experiences, and wool felt making will be held, inviting visitors on a "multi-sensory journey" through Nepal while celebrating the enduring friendship between China and Nepal.
