On June 29, the Conghua sub-venue of the 2025 Guangzhou International Dragon Boat Invitational came alive at Jin'ou Plaza on the Liuxi River, drawing 1,500 athletes from 60 global teams and attracting 80,000 spectators.
Set along the scenic Liuxi River in Conghua District, Guangzhou, the 300-meter straight-course race featured traditional "Dragon Boat Parade" (You Long) performances. For the first time, an international division was added, with teams from Russia and Canada competing alongside local community and university teams.
The traditional eye-dotting ceremony brought 12 dragon boats to life, followed by a festive parade that energized the crowd. In the races, international teams faced off against local village crews, while elaborately decorated boats moved rhythmically to drumbeats during the parade.
The event seamlessly blended lychee culture with dragon boat traditions. At the lychee-themed market, visitors sampled premium local varieties like Guiwei and Nuomici. Among 31 interactive activities, traditional crafts—such as tea whisking and bamboo weaving—were paired with modern experiences like electronic drumming.
An art zone featuring pressed flower art and Cantonese opera costumes, along with water parades and daylight fireworks, offered a rich experience of "racing + lychee tasting + art appreciation," showcasing Conghua's unique blend of nature, heritage, and agritourism.
