Artificial intelligence (AI) hair washing stores are being opened in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province, offering customers fully automated, machine-operated hair washing service with minimal staff involvement.

Currently priced at around 19 yuan ($2.59) on online platforms, the service was initially launched at a promotional price of 9.9 yuan, China National Radio (CNR) reported.

One AI hair washing store in Guangzhou features five hair washing machines was managed by three workers, said CNR. The store has been operational since December last year, with peak daily customers exceeding 100 during busy periods. Currently, it serves an average of 30 to 40 customers daily, one employee said.

Before washing, staff conduct scalp health assessments using specialized instruments. "We select appropriate washing modes and corresponding shampoos based on customers' hair types," a worker said.

Available modes include customizable duration options and maintenance treatments, featuring adjustable cleansing intensities and selectable hair length settings.

During the wash, the machine employs multiple water outlets and infrared lights to automatically adjust angles for thorough scalp cleansing.

The standard 13-minute washing procedure includes two shampoo cycles, one conditioning treatment, and seven rinse stages. The equipment also features integrated massage bed, according to the report.

"AI hair washing primarily solves staffing shortages - three employees can simultaneously manage all machines," another worker said. Currently, AI hair washing services are available in several districts across Guangzhou, CNR reported.

A customer surnamed Li said that while she was initially unfamiliar with AI hair washing, she found the process both thorough and novel. Some netizens have acknowledged the innovative concept, though noting limited efficacy for specific scalp issues, suggesting that it's more suitable for routine hair care, said the report.
