Since resuming regular operations in December 2024, the Nansha International Cruise Home Port has served over 100,000 passengers, driving consumption exceeding 500 million yuan. Guangzhou is now accelerating the development of its cruise economy with a "cruise+consumption" initiative, aiming to enhance service consumption quality and attract more visitors.
"Cruise+culture" enhances tourist experience
One of the cruises, the Adora Mediterranean, known as the "ship of art," has operated 52 cruises with routes covering Japan, Vietnam, and China's Hong Kong, among other destinations. The cruise offers a "cruise + culture" experience, featuring Mediterranean-themed decor, 15 restaurants and bars, and cultural immersion activities like New Year celebrations and themed voyages commemorating Zheng He's travels, designed to enhance passengers' cultural immersion.
Notably, the onboard dining integrates Lingnan regional culture, offering a selection of authentic Cantonese delicacies, dim sum, and a range of seasonal specialties for passengers. These efforts have significantly boosted cultural engagement and tourist satisfaction, with an average occupancy rate exceeding 75%.
Since 2025 Spring Festival, passenger numbers have repeatedly reached new highs, with the occupancy rate remaining above 90%. The cruise economy in Guangzhou is showing a robust development trend.
Innovative "bonded supply" Model boosts cruise economy
Leveraging the Nansha International Cruise Home Port's proximity to the Guangzhou Nansha Comprehensive Bonded Zone, Guangzhou has pioneered a "bonded supply" model for cruise supplies.
This model, supported by customs authorities, has reduced supply chain costs for cruise supplies. On March 18, tax-free supplies were successfully delivered to a cruise ship in Nansha, marking the first such breakthrough in Guangdong province.
Efficient immigration services for cruise passengers
The Nansha Immigration Inspection Station has introduced an AR Immigration Hall to provide user-friendly clearance services, including multilingual support and emergency assistance. This includes teams of staff proficient in Cantonese dialect and foreign languages, offering timely and effective immigration services for passengers.
A green channel has also been established to provide emergency assistance and support for passengers who suddenly fall ill, suffer injuries, or lose valuable items/documents.
These measures ensure smooth and efficient passage for the majority of passengers, who are residents of Guangdong and surrounding provinces, with over 70% being senior travelers.
In the future, Guangzhou aims to further develop the "cruise + consumption" model and enrich service consumption products to meet diverse consumer demands as part of the city's broader strategy to become an international consumption center, offering unique cruise experiences and boosting local economic growth.
