Stage play: The Pillowman (枕头人)

The play is based on the work of Irish-British playwright Martin McDonagh, who is famous for his dark humor and for integrating cruelty and healing moments in his works. It tells the story of the writer Katurian, who is interrogated about the gruesome plots of his novel when he is accused of serial murders, as the scenes are very similar to several child murders occurring in his town. This thought-provoking play is a must-see for drama lovers.

Dance drama: Flower Rains on the Silk Road (丝路花雨)

The classic dance drama Flower Rains on the Silk Road, a landmark work of Dunhuang dance, is based on the Dunhuang murals and Silk Road. With a rich blend of regional folk dances and music, it portrays Dunhuang painter Shen Bizhang and his daughter, Yingniang, and their friendship with a Persian merchant.

Stage play: Life of Pi (少年派的奇幻漂流)

The critically acclaimed stage adaptation of Life of Pi, based on Yann Martel's best-selling novel, will make its way to Guangdong. The play tells the story of Pi Patel, a 16-year-old boy who survives a shipwreck alongside a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan, and a Bengal tiger. The creative team employs highly imaginative techniques and breathtaking visual effects to bring the fantastical maritime adventure to life on stage.

Dance drama: Tian Xia Da Zu (天下大足)

Tian Xia Da Zu is the first dance drama shedding light on Dazu Rock Carvings, the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Southwest China's Chongqing. Set during the Southern Song Dynasty, it tells the story of Xiao Fu, a war-displaced boy who seeks refuge with cliff-dwelling artisans. Through his journey, audiences will experience the challenging yet awe-inspiring process of carving Buddhist statues into the mountains.
