Guangzhou holds symposium to welcome 15th National Games

During the 13th Guangzhou Friendship Games on Oct 26, the Symposium for Chinese Foreign Friends Celebrating the 15th National Games took place at the Tianhe Sports Center. Representatives from Guangzhou, foreign expats, and individuals from Hong Kong and Macao gathered to discuss topics such as sportsmanship and cultural exchange, reflecting the excitement for the upcoming events.   

The Consul from the Qatari Consulate General in Guangzhou emphasized Qatar's significant commitment to sports development, having hosted prestigious events like the World Cup. He expressed his hope that athletes participating in the National Games can fully embrace the competitive spirit and enjoyment that sports bring.

Raymond Tam Chi Yuen, executive director of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, is of the opinion that the National Games can boost the development of sports in Hong Kong. He emphasized that the National Games are not just a top-tier sporting event, but also a platform for highlighting Chinese and Greater Bay Area stories. The event not only offers a stage for Hong Kong athletes but also fosters local sports participation, promotes the growth of tourism, catering, and retail industries, and attracts commercial sponsorships.

Filipe Azevedo, the Portuguese founder and CEO of CF Sports, has expressed his concern for the development of youth football in Guangzhou while also commending the local sports facilities. Drawing on his experience as a former professional football player, he highlights that the standard of sports facilities in China exceeds that of other countries. From kindergartens to high schools and universities in Guangzhou, top-notch football fields are readily available, offering a conducive environment for football enthusiasts.

Reflecting on his culinary adventures in Guangzhou, Paul fondly recalled the diverse array of exotic fruits unique to the city, which left a lasting impression on him.
