On July 4, the sports center at South China Agricultural University officially opened. It is reported that the sports center at South China Agricultural University was designed by the team led by academician He Jingtang from the Architectural Design and Research Institute of South China University of Technology, and constructed by China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Corporation. The project has a total investment of nearly 440 million yuan($60.5 million) and a total construction area of 52,450 square meters. It includes competition halls, training halls, swimming pools, and auxiliary service rooms, with the main arena capable of accommodating nearly 8,000 people. The sports center adopts a multifunctional design that is flexible and versatile, catering to needs such as physical education, daily training, competitions, and other large-scale activities. Additionally, the design team incorporated the design concept of " vibrant link", blending the unique cultural characteristics of the university with elements of agriculture, green, and low-carbon design, creating a new model for campus-integrated community sports centers. This provides a comfortable sports and leisure experience for students and staff.

Since the sports center's groundbreaking in August 2022, all participating units and relevant university departments have worked diligently to expedite progress, completing construction in December 2023 and officially opening the center in July 2024. This new addition is a significant gift to the university's 115th-anniversary celebration. Currently, the tender for sports center operations has been completed, and a detailed operational plan is being formulated. It is expected that swimming, basketball, badminton, tennis, and other facilities will gradually be available to the public.
