As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, the Liede Chong (Creek) came alive with splashing oars on May 10th! Over 30 international and local residents gathered in Guangzhou's Liede International Neighborhood for a cultural immersion – learning festival traditions, hand-painting paddles, and racing colorful dragon boats.
AJ from the US has lived in Guangzhou for 3 years. "This was the first time for me to paddle a dragon boat. It's really interesting," he said. "My daughter was hesitant at first but ended up loving it!" He spoke highly of the event which blends fun with cultural education.
Organized by the residents' committee of Guangyue International Community along with the local Social Worker Station, this event turned intangible heritage into cross-cultural play. Watch the video to see how residents from around the world "paddled" their way to friendship!
