On September 22, a major step towards collaboration in health and longevity was taken at the "Guangzhou-Hungary Joining Hands for Health: Exchange and Cooperation Symposium on Longevity and Anti-Aging", hosted by Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Group (GPG).
The event gathered a Hungarian delegation led by Oláh Lajos, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, meeting with Guangzhou officials and business leaders.
Oláh remarks on Hungary-Guangzhou health cooperation
Deputy Speaker Oláh Lajos highlighted the strong potential for cooperation. "I think there is a good possibility to cooperate between Guangzhou and Hungary in this territory," he stated, emphasizing Hungary's own medical expertise. "We have not just one, but more Nobel Prize winners in this territory." He positioned Hungary as a prime European partner for Chinese investment, noting BYD's recent factory opening as a "diamond" example of existing ties.
A key proposal emerged for integrating Hungarian and Chinese wellness traditions. "It would be a good concept to create a mixture of Hungarian thermal water treatment and traditional Chinese medicine. It's really a long life," Oláh suggested, also promoting Hungary's accessible thermal baths.

From the Chinese side, GPG Chairman Li Xiaojun underscored TCM's global reach, noting that over 60 Chinese medicinal materials are included in the European Pharmacopoeia. He acknowledged Hungary's pioneering role as the first European nation to enact TCM legislation in 2013. Guangdong Longjiang Hospital also shared insights from its anti-aging center, developed with a Swiss partner.
