Brazilian Coffee Expands in China with First Themed Shop in Guangzhou

South | Updated:2025-09-18

The first Brazilian coffee-themed shop in Guangzhou opened Monday, as China and Brazil step up cooperation in the coffee industry.

The shop was jointly initiated by Chinese coffee brand Luckin and ApexBrasil, the country's trade and investment promotion agency, to further deepen China-Brazil coffee industry cooperation.

"It's a Brazilian landmark," said Victor Queiroz, General Manager of ApexBrasil's Asia-Pacific Office. "It's really important to be present in Guangdong province."

Brazil is the world's largest coffee producer. "We have many different kinds of coffee, from Arabica to Robusta, with varying levels of quality as well," explained Queiroz.

China became Brazil's largest trading partner in 2009, surpassing the United States. Over the past sixteen years, bilateral trade has ballooned from $42 billion to over $188 billion in 2024, with China importing vast quantities of Brazilian soy, iron, meat—and increasingly, coffee.

The Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council reported that in the 2023-24 crop year, Brazil's coffee exports to China increased by 186.1% year on year.

"I think we should use this model to promote Brazilian açaí, Brazilian nuts, and Brazilian cacao," added Queiroz. "We are a huge agricultural country, and we have a lot to explore and promote in China."
