A Hong Kong delegation led by Leung Chun-ying, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, launched a two-day visit to Nansha New Area of Guangzhou, Guangdong province, on Monday.

The 80-member group included members and experts of the Consultative Committee on Guangdong-Hong Kong Cooperation (Guangzhou Nansha) and representatives of business organizations from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Monday marked the first day of full reopening of the border between Hong Kong and the mainland after all remaining COVID-19 control measures related to border-crossing were lifted.

The delegation learned about the plan for a Hong Kong-style international community in Nansha, the operation of a Hong Kong-style outpatient clinic, an entrepreneurial and innovation base for Hong Kong and Macao youths and a service center for the Consultative Committee on Guangdong-Hong Kong Cooperation (Guangzhou Nansha).

Members also met with people from the local governmental and business sectors. Seven Hong Kong organizations have established representative offices at the service center of the committee in Nansha.

Leung encouraged more members of the service center to set up representative offices there.

In Nansha, they would be able to share experiences and form a cluster from which they would be able to cover the rest of country, he said.

Ken Chung, chairman of the Chamber of the Hong Kong Logistics Industry, said he was very excited about the trip. After talks with some business organizations in Guangzhou and Nansha in recent months, his chamber has formed an alliance with them, with a ceremony held in Nansha on Monday.

The parties in the alliance hope to upgrade the supply chain together with trading and commercial companies, he said.
