GDToday | Updated:2025-05-29

On May 26, the "Bay Area AI Industry Innovation Alliance" was launched in Nansha, Guangzhou. To comprehensively upgrade the AI innovation ecosystem and establish a new global hub for AI industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and around the globe, the event brought together government officials, academia, enterprises, and international experts.

Through strategic agreements, policy releases, think-tank collaborations, and expert forums, the event ignited collaborative innovation momentum for AI industries. Co-founded by HKUST (GZ) and Huawei, together with Hong Kong, Macao, and international institutions, the alliance unites talent in the fields of industry, academia, research, application, and finance. It integrates technical resources from research institutions, empowering AI industrial growth in Nansha and nationwide.

HKUST (GZ) President Ming-Shuan Ni emphasized: "AI technologies driven by large models are revolutionizing industries at unprecedented speed. AI evolves from a tool to an ecosystem revolution. Future industrial competitiveness lies in building a 'technology-scenario-ecosystem' loop. The government should optimize policies and business environments. Enterprises should explore scenario-based value. Universities must break disciplinary barriers. Financial capital must unlock market potential.”

HKUST (GZ) will offer support in two aspects: technologically, leveraging its AI subjects ranking top 10 globally and a think tank of over 100 scholars, building a shared research infrastructure, and lowering innovation barriers for SMEs; industrially, based on 70 incubated tech sci-tech enterprises, developing the "HKUST (GZ) Innovation Zone" for lab-to-production transitions. It will also focus on R&D and commercialization to build the Bay Area's AI standard-setting hub.
