The Asian Cuisine Festival kicked off in Guangzhou on May 16. The Cantonese singer A Xi has written a song – "Taste of Guangzhou", to welcome the event. The Cantonese song also has its own music video featuring close-up footage of scenery and food from around the city, leaving anyone sees it with fond memories of Guangzhou.
Chandra Gunawan, one of Indonesia's best-known chefs who once served the Indonesian President Joko Widodo, demonstrated the cooking techniques of his personal specialty of fried chicken with coconut on May 20.
The food culture in Guangzhou displays the southern Chinese city's open and inclusive attitude. With its opening up efforts continuing to deepen, Guangzhou's food culture has become a symbol of communication between the city and the world.
Food is the first necessity of all people. It is a symbol of personal taste, a refined skill, a way of life, and a culture. Different countries and regions have formed their own unique food cultures throughout history.
