Birthday wishes, job resumes, and dating profiles appear on Guangzhou metro ads

Personal advertisements such as birthday wishes, dating profiles, and job resumes have been appearing on advertising boards inside the Guangzhou subway, sparking wide attention, reported Nanfang Metropolis Daily on Monday.

A Guangzhou resident surnamed Wu shared that she had been looking for a unique way to celebrate her husband's birthday two months prior. She discovered the option to place birthday ads in the Guangzhou subway and decided to surprise her husband using this method.

In late April, Wu chose a station near her home to display a birthday ad for her husband, costing 666 yuan ($92) for a five-day display period. On his birthday, Wu surprised her husband with the advertisement, and they took a photo to commemorate the moment. She mentioned that her husband was "very surprised and didn't expect it. He is quite reserved, so he didn't dare to stand in front of the billboard for too long. He felt awkward when people passing by glanced at him, but he was still very happy."

In addition to birthday ads, individuals have been placing job-seeking ads on the metro. One individual mentioned that due to the difficulty of finding a job recently, he decided to place his resume on a subway advertising board. He spent 1,000 yuan to place a personal ad at a station for five days, and within about two days, his WeChat was flooded with new contacts.

Dating ads have also been spotted. A staff member surnamed Li from Guangzhou Metro Media Co said the service has received positive feedback and an increasing number of orders since its launch in January. A special applet was developed on WeChat to cater to the demand.

Li mentioned that users can place orders through the related applet, and workers will contact customers for more details. Typically, a reservation for the desired advertising time needs to be made at least five days in advance, and the specific content needs to be censored before publication.

Personal advertisement product prices range from 380 yuan to 999 yuan, allowing users to select various electronic screens or advertising boards at different metro stations and display periods. After placing an order online, users can choose from the platform's templates for ad content creation or design their own content within the established themes, then confirm the publication time and location with the staff.

Besides positive feedback, some advertisers are looking forward to enhanced online features. Wu hopes that Guangzhou Metro can standardize the online creation of personal ads and provide more options in template selection, image uploading, and text editing to facilitate user-friendly operations.
