During the recent Global Mayors' Forum in Guangzhou, Fajar Nugrahaini, head of Road Based Transport Department of the Jakarta Transport Authority in Indonesia, experienced the Guangzhou Metro and was impressed by its low fares and clear signage.

Nugrahaini praised the Guangzhou Metro for its affordable ticket price, starting at only 2 yuan ($0.26), as well as clear signage and detailed maps inside the stations.

She also mentioned that the red pillars set up a few hundred meters outside the stations are very visitor-friendly, helping newcomers easily find the entrances.

Additionally, she and Widyarini Weningtyas, assistant professor at the Bandung Institute of Technology, noticed the screens inside the stations, which not only display the arrival of the next trains but also play public service videos educating children on safe travel.

At the recently announced 6th Guangzhou Awards, Jakarta's project "Reclaiming spaces for children using public transportation through the Navi Station initiative" won an honorary medal.

Nugrahaini said she believes children are an excellent starting point for raising awareness about metro usage, as they can influence their parents and family members, helping to change adults' fixed mindset about public transport.

This year's Global Mayors' Forum opened in Guangzhou on Dec 7, with a focus on city innovation and cooperation to drive high-quality development.
