The 2023 Global Mayors' Forum was hosted in Guangzhou on Dec 7.

The event has attracted over 800 guests, including representatives from 65 cities in 37 countries and nine international organizations, to discuss "High-Quality Development: Urban Innovation and Cooperation."

During the forum, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as collaborative development in urban areas, artificial intelligence, and the construction of green cities. Guangzhou, as an advocate of global urban governance innovation, is demonstrating its achievements in reform and opening up through the event, strengthening international cooperation.

Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries President Yang Wanming emphasized the role of local exchanges in fostering national relationships in his opening speech, calling for cities around the globe to promote high-quality growth. 

Representatives from the United Cities and Local Governments, the World Association of Major Metropolises, and other international organizations also shared their views on the Guangzhou Award, highlighting the importance of urban innovation in driving sustainable development.

Siddharth Chatterjee, the United Nations resident coordinator in China, praised Guangzhou for its contributions to urbanization and announced that the UN Human Settlements Programme will collaborate with Guangzhou to promote sustainable environmental development. 

The forum also saw city mayors sharing their experiences in urban development and discussing the significance of local thinking patterns in globalization.
