Tamsin Phyllida Thokozile Faragher, the chief resilience officer of Cape Town, South Africa, visited Guangzhou on Dec 7 during the 2023 Global Mayors' Forum and expressed admiration for the city's water management and urban greening projects. She was deeply impressed by the city's orderliness, despite its high population density, as well as its vitality.

Cape Town's Building Resilient Food Systems Initiative, a finalist at the Guangzhou Awards (part of the 2023 Global Mayors' Forum), focuses on establishing new food systems to reduce the risk of food insecurity among vulnerable groups. Tamsin emphasized the importance of reducing food waste for environmental protection and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.

Kyle Ryann Carls, chairperson of the Future Planning and Resilience Building in Cape Town, was struck by Guangzhou's skyscrapers, nightscapes, and cleanliness on his first visit. He said he looks forward to exchanging ideas and collaborating with Guangzhou in urban innovation and planning and learning from the city's integration of industry and urban development.

Faced with an unstable electricity supply in most South African cities, the two representatives from Cape Town showed great interest in introducing photovoltaic and new energy technologies to the country.
