At the conclusion of the 6th Guangzhou International Awards for Urban Innovation on Dec 7 in Kampala, Uganda was honored with a National 3A Scenic Area designation.

Dorothy Kisaka, the city's representative, and the executive director of Kampala's city government, received the award featuring the national flag of Uganda.

During an interview, Kisaka shared Kampala's innovative project - an app named "Weyonje", which simplifies the process of pit latrine cleaning through technology, effectively improving public health and reducing disease incidence in the city. She stated that receiving the Guangzhou Award is not only an honor for the city but for the entire nation.

Additionally, Kisaka plans to replicate Guangzhou's experience in making the city greener, especially the use of Bougainvillea (triangle azalea), in Kampala to enhance the city's landscape. Kampala also plans to establish a Friendship City relationship with Guangzhou, with the expectation of signing a memorandum of cooperation in April next year, further strengthening exchanges and cooperation between the two cities in various fields, particularly in solid waste management technology.

This award marks an important step forward for Kampala on the international stage and signifies the prospects of closer cooperation and development between the two cities in the future.
