The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on Strengthening Exchanges and Cooperation between the Nansha district of Guangzhou and Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro in southeastern Brazil was held online on Aug 1.
Lu Yixian, Party secretary of Nansha district, Wilson Miguel Reis, mayor of Duque de Caxias, and Tian Min, Chinese consul general in Rio de Janeiro, attended the meeting online.
Tian said that strengthening friendly exchanges and cooperation between local cities is an important part of the China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership. Nansha district and Duque de Caxias have great potential for cooperation in the fields of culture and education, information technology, logistics and transportation, energy, as well as medical and health care, he added. Tian also expressed hope that the two sides will further deepen practical cooperation in various fields to benefit the people in both places.
Lu noted that Duque de Caxias and Nansha have a close relationship with each other in culture, economy, and industry. It is hoped that the two sides will take this opportunity to strengthen industrial matchmaking, economic and trade cooperation, as well as cultural exchanges, making positive contributions to further intensifying China-Brazil relations and deepening cooperation among the BRICS countries of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Reis said that Duque de Caxias is committed to developing partnerships with many cities in various countries to enhance friendship, as well as mutually beneficial and common development in the fields of trade, education, culture, and technology. He expressed hope that this signing will bring the two sides closer together and lead to fruitful cooperation between the two parties.
Duque de Caxias is a municipality under the state of Rio de Janeiro, and its name comes from the Duke of Caxias, the patron of the Brazilian army in history.
The city has developed industry and commerce, convenient transportation, as well as rich cultural, educational, and medical resources. The state of Rio de Janeiro is an important gateway and one of the most economically developed regions in Brazil and South America. It is an important transportation hub, as well as the center of information communication, tourism, culture, finance, and insurance in Brazil.
