A side meeting of the Guangzhou Award with the theme of Urban Innovation and the Implementation of the New Urban Agenda was held online on April 27.

The meeting invited representatives of Guangzhou Award-winning cities to share their outstanding cases and innovative actions, as well as released the 2022 Local Implementation of the New Urban Agenda Report.

The report selected the shortlisted city cases of the last two Guangzhou Awards, demonstrating the institutional and practical innovations of local governments through governance, planning, as well as financing methods.

The report demonstrates the contribution that the Guangzhou Award has made in promoting sustainable urban development.

Zhan Decun, director of the foreign affairs office of the Guangzhou municipal government, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

"Today, people have not yet come out of the haze of the epidemic, but the task of implementing the global agenda, promoting the modernization of urban governance, and realizing sustainable urban development is still urgent," he said.

Zhan added that he believes that this meeting will help Guangzhou explore sustainable development paths for megacities.

Since the fourth session, the Guangzhou Award has coordinated with the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda, becoming an important platform for local governments to implement the global agenda and share innovative solutions.
