Construction on the Guangzhou campus of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is progressing quickly, local media outlets reported on Jan 4.
HKUST (Guangzhou) is located in the northwest corner of Qingsheng area and has a planned area of about 1,669 mu (111 hectares). The campus is divided into two phases, the first of which has a floorage of about 636,000 square meters and a total investment of 9.59 billion yuan ($1.5 billion).
The core area consists of the central scientific research facility area, while the supporting area includes a living service block, sports village, north dormitory area as well as energy and data centers.
The preliminary design of the campus passed technical review in September 2021, and the complete set of construction blueprints was completed by the end of November 2021.
