The first forum on scientific cooperation between Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Macao was held on Sept 24, focusing on the innovation development and opportunities of Hong Kong and Macao youths in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Attendees of the forum included youth entrepreneurs and representatives from universities, scientific research institutes, as well as investment and financing institutions.

Lao Zhihong, deputy director of the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, said that Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao have initially established a communication mechanism on innovation and entrepreneurship to share resources. Preferential policies have also been launched to optimize the innovation and entrepreneurship environment for Hong Kong and Macao youths.

Lao noted that Guangdong province has been home to 134 incubation carriers for scientific companies in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, incubating a total of 1,046 Hong Kong and Macao innovation teams and companies by the end of 2019.

Ip Kuai Peng, pro-rector of City University of Macao, said that the forum is very meaningful as it can help Macao youths to learn more about the latest information on carrying out scientific entrepreneurship in the Chinese mainland.

"Our university organizes around 300 students to conduct social practice in cities in the Greater Bay Area every summer holiday," added Ip.
