The first seminar on judicial cases of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area took place on Jan 6 in Guangzhou.

A cross-region trademark protection case was used for a moot court during the seminar and the case was handled separately according to judicial proceedings in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao.

Comparative studies were expected to be carried on the differences in the legal systems of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.

Pei Xianding, full-time member of the judicial committee of the Supreme People's Court, said that organizing the seminar is meaningful for promoting the construction of a better legal environment in the Greater Bay Area.

Teresa Cheng, Hong Kong's secretary for justice, said that using moot courts to discuss the same case can gather the judicial wisdom of the three areas.

The judicial communication among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao has been closer as Guangdong's court has handled 9,091 commercial and civil cases of courts of first instance related to Hong Kong and Macao in the first 11 months of 2019.
