A memorandum for enhancing communication and cooperation between Guangzhou and Heidelberg, Germany was signed on Dec 15 during the Heidelberg delegation's tour of Guangzhou.

The delegation was led by Eckart Wurzner, mayor of Heidelberg.

According to the memorandum, the two cities will carry out deeper cooperation in various areas, spanning technology, education, economy, trade, and tourism. 

Wurzner said that Heidelberg is like the brain of Germany, welcoming 57 Nobel Prize winners to study and work there. He noted that the city has paid great attention to its cooperation with China, and he expressed his hope that specific cooperation projects will be launched after establishing sister city ties with Guangzhou.

Heidelberg has been forging partnership in various fields with Guangzhou in recent years, which includes the cooperation between the Sino-German Science and Education Park in Heidelberg and Guangzhou Development District. The two sides also signed an agreement in 2018 to set up offshore innovation centers in both cities to help entrepreneurs.
