An art and calligraphy exhibition showcasing the works of 200 young artists from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Taiwan commenced on Sept 29 in Guangzhou.

Artwork for the exhibition started being collected in July this year. All artwork was required to be painted by young artists from 18 to 45 years old and have been created after January 2018.

A total of more than 1,000 works have been submitted to the exhibition, 200 of which have been selected for display. The works include Chinese paintings, oil paintings, printmaking works, lacquer paintings, watercolor paintings, and comic strips depicting scenery, human figures, cityscapes, and country-style works.

"I went to the construction site of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge several times and was deeply impressed by it, so I decided to paint it. The painting shows the connection of the bridge and symbolizes economic and cultural cooperation and integration between cities in the Greater Bay Area," said Shang Yan, a painter from Zhuhai, Guangdong province, whose work was exhibited during the event.

Zhao Jianxing, deputy chairman of the Guangzhou Municipal Artist Association, said that 80 percent of the selected works are close to life and are filled with positive energy. Zhao said that young artists should continue devoting effort to practicing basic skills and deepening their understanding of the arts through continuous creation.
