A batch of lychees weighing 426 kilograms and worth over $6,500 was shipped to Chile on June 22 after completing quarantine and inspection procedures by Guangzhou Customs.

It marked the first batch of lychees to be exported from Lingnan to South America.

The fruit was freshly picked by farmers in orchards registered under the customs, shipped through a cold chain service to the processing plant, then cleaned and disinfected, as well as packaged in strict accordance with the requirements of Chile.

The distinctive Lingnan specialty is expected to arrive in Chile in about two days, and then will be available for Chilean consumers after customs clearance, according to a customs official of Foshan Customs, which is under the jurisdiction of Guangzhou Customs.

To ensure that the export lychee meets the relevant requirements of Chile, Foshan Customs guided the company to work in strict accordance with the lychee export standard, issued a plant quarantine certificate recognized by Chile to the company, as well as opened a green channel for lychee exports.
