After 30 years of development, the Guangzhou Development District has become an important economic development growth driver, an engine for technological innovation, and an innovation-driven development core area of Guangzhou. Data shows that in 2018, the district achieved a regional GDP of 346.5 billion yuan ($50 billion), a total industrial output value of 760.3 billion yuan, a fixed asset investment of 116.5 billion yuan, as well as fiscal and tax revenue of 105.2 billion yuan.

During the communication event, Deng Huishan, vice-consul of Singapore in Guangzhou, noted that Singapore has close and substantial cooperation with Huangpu district.

Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (SSGKC) focuses on R&D, advanced manufacturing, biomedical, and intellectual property related industries that are very forward-looking industries, which has achieved many outstanding results, he said.

SSGKC is an iconic project of cross-border cooperation between China and Singapore after Suzhou Industrial Park and Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city. It is a model for Guangdong's economic transformation, initiated jointly by Guangdong province and the Singaporean government.

With the upgrade of its cooperation platforms, various projects have been launched one after another in SSGKC. Just a week ago, the SSGKC Management Committee and Tessa Therapeutics, a Singaporean biotechnology company that specializes in cancer cell immunotherapy, officially signed a project cooperation framework in Singapore. The company will settle in SSGKC in the future.

As many key industry players gather here, SSGKC will have considerable growth potential. In addition, as an important node of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Corridor, it will also contribute to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, added Deng.

The delegation also toured the exhibition hall of Guangzhou-based Medprin Regenerative Medical Technologies, a company that specializes in 3D printing for medical use. The company has realized commercialization in many high-end medical equipment products, such as artificial brains, spinal membranes, and non-tension urinary incontinence devices.
