Convention aids construction of world-class bio-industry ecosphere in Greater Bay Area

The 12th China Bioindustry Convention wrapped up in Guangzhou on June 12. More than 30,000 people participated in the event, which saw online and offline match-makings of 400 projects, as well as the signing of deals worth over 20 billion yuan ($2.9 billion). 

In addition, 36 professional forums were held during the three-day convention and more than 30 companies released their 50 innovative achievements.

The conference focused on the innovation and development of bio-industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. A professional forum was also held on industry-university-research cooperation of precision medicine in the Greater Bay Area, as well as an innovative drug non-clinical evaluation research summit.

During the convention, the Third Guanzhou International Bio-Forum, which is known as the "Davos Forum" of the bio-medicine field, was also held in Guangzhou.  More than 600 experts, scholars, and business leaders from the global biomedical field gathered to discuss industry development under new global trends, as well as jointly explored the innovation and development of the bio-pharmaceutical industry in the Greater Bay Area.

Many cooperative projects were also launched during the convention, including the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area High Performance Medical Device Innovation Center and the regenerative medicine advanced institute project.

Guangzhou will deepen its cooperation and exchanges with Hong Kong and Macao, striving to combine its commercialization ability and the sci-tech innovation capabilities of Hong Kong and Macao to make breakthroughs in integrative development in the bio-medicine industry, according to Zeng Jinze, director of the Guangzhou municipal development and reform commission.

As one of the core growth engines of the Greater Bay Area, Guangzhou will make full use of its advantages and provide solid support for the construction of the Greater Bay Area International Science and Technology Innovation Center, creating a hub for the biomedical and health industry, he added.
