Shipping magnate Maersk teams up with Nansha for global consolidation logistics center

Maersk, the world's largest container ship and supply vessel operator, confirmed their cooperation with Nansha district on April 3 to build an international consolidation logistics services base in the southern Chinese city, Guangzhou.

The department of commerce of Nansha district inked a cooperation agreement with Maersk Group on that day to support the Danish shipping giant with its import and export consolidation logistics services base and South China International Logistics Distribution Center project.

As a leading company in the shipping service industry, Maersk Group currently operates in 130 countries providing shipping, logistics, supply chain management, warehousing, multimodal transport, customs declaration, and so forth. Maersk will take advantage of the storage facilities of Nansha Port Area to develop businesses in import and export logistics, international transit consolidation, cross-border import and export e-commerce business, regional distribution business, and logistics related services to create a full range of digital and regional logistics distribution center.

Cai Chaolin, Party chief of Nansha district, said that Nansha will offer strong support to Maersk in terms of routes, terminal operations, and logistics. "This cooperation is only the beginning and I believe that the two sides will have deeper and broader cooperation in the future," he said.

Guangzhou is a popular venue for global trade and one of the focuses of Maersk's business plans. Nansha has a superior geographical position and reaches the economic hinterland of the Pearl River Delta, according to Robbert van Trooijen, head of Maersk in Asia Pacific.

Over the years, Maersk has been in active cooperation with Guangzhou and Nansha in route businesses, terminal operations, and logistics services, and has achieved gratifying results, said Trooijen, who hopes to attract more business partners to Nansha in the future.
