This year's World Route Development Forum will be hosted by the Guangdong Airport Authority, the operator of the third busiest airport in China - Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. Around 3,000 of the most senior decision makers from 300 airlines, 700 airports and 130 tourism authorities are expected to attend the event.

It will be a rare opportunity to promote Guangzhou and the Guangzhou Airport Economic Zone as investors from airlines and aviation maintenance and manufacturing companies across the world will be able to gain a close understanding of Guangzhou's urban construction and industrial development. The events will also further promote international exchanges and cooperation, and increase Guangzhou's global exposure and international influence, according to a representative of the Guangzhou Airport Economic Zone.

In recent years, Guangzhou has accelerated the expansion of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, and significantly enhanced its function. At present, the airport's network reaches 220 destinations around the world, with more than 300 routes, including 157 international ones.

Last year, passenger throughput at the city's airport exceeded 65 million, an increase of 10.2 percent year on year and ranking 13th in the world, of which international passenger throughput was 15.89 million, up 17.6 percent year on year and accounting for 24 percent of total passengers.
