The 2018 International Conference on Display Technology (ICDT) was held in Huangpu district in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou from April 9 to 12.

The ICDT, an annual grand convention sponsored by the Society for Information Display (SID), exchanges ideas between top scientists, engineers, and business people in the display industry around the world. This year's conference in Guangzhou was highlighted by a wide range of the latest display technologies developed throughout Asia and especially in China.

Among the attendees were some 20 members of sciences academies in various countries, including Martin Schadt, fellow of the European Academy of Sciences and the inventor of liquid crystal display (LCD), and Ching W. Tang, member of the United States National Academy of Engineering and the inventor of the organic light-emitting diode (OLED).

More than 260 oral presentations and 120 poster presentations were made at the conference, covering 17 subfields of display technology. Around 30 percent of the presenters came from abroad.

The host, Huangpu district, is a concentration area for the display industry. It generated total revenue of 70.53 billion yuan ($11.19 billion) in the district in 2017, up 16.1 percent from 2016. Top players in the industry, such as LG Display, Nippon Electric Glass, and Skyworth electronics, have made heavy local investments.

Huangpu district aims to become China's largest manufacturing base for the new-type display industry, with the flat panel industry expected to deliver 300-billion-yuan revenue in 2020. The district will use the opportunity presented by the conference to keep updated with the latest industrial trends and draw in top scientists and business minds.
