Sino-Russian youth sports meet promotes cultural communication

The seventh China-Russia Youth Sports Meeting, an event to train and foster sport talents and promote people-to-people communication, started in Guangzhou on Nov 4.

Huang Ningsheng, vice governor of Guangdong province; Wang Yuping, director of Sports Bureau of Guangdong province; Sergey Kosilov, deputy minister of Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation attended the opening ceremony of the event.

The sports meeting consists of nine major events including wrestling, judo, basketball, table tennis and martial arts and is held in Guangzhou University Town and Guangdong Olympic Sports Center from Nov 3 to 8.

The opening ceremony features dances, chorus and martial arts which not only contains Chinese and Russian elements but also presents audiences an integration of both Chinese and Russian cultures. The performers are young college students from Chinese and Russian universities.

Apart from the competitions, some cultural activities in which Russian youth will experience traditional Chinese sports activity dragon boat racing and learn about traditional Chinese medicine are also highlights of the sports meeting. 

The China-Russia Youth Sports Meeting was founded in 2006 and is held alternately in Russia and China. The event aims to promote sports communication among the youth from the two countries and tightens their bonds.
